An inception meeting happened today at Gracehouse Resort bringing together partners under the Joint Learning Project on Child Protection. Organizations represented included USIU, University of Nairobi, Blue Cross, The Salvation Army, Free Pentecostal Fellowship in Kenya (FPFK), Bible Society of Kenya, United Bible Societies, DIGNI, and Norwegian Pentecostal Mission (NPM).
The engagement focused on strengthening collaborative approaches to child protection through initiatives such as Child Health Desks, Children’s Rights Clubs, and designated church point persons responsible for reporting child-related cases. Participants also emphasized the importance of signing Child Protection Policies and Codes of Conduct prior to employment or contractual engagement, as well as promoting trauma healing programs and life skills training for teenagers.
The Joint Learning Project aims to consolidate knowledge and enhance the quality and effectiveness of development interventions among members of the DIGNI Fellowship. The initiative seeks to generate shared learning, deepen collaboration among partners, and develop innovative responses to emerging child protection challenges.
Key considerations discussed included:
Upholding the best interests of the child
Ensuring children’s voices and agency are respected
Maintaining confidentiality and transparency
Strengthening collective efforts to positively impact the lives of children.
Next Steps:
A steering committee has been nominated to spearhead the Joint Learning Project. The immediate actions include:
Drafting and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
Joint planning of activities
Implementation of the learning initiatives
